Matt Hardy's BYW Thoughts

If you seriously have a love for the wrestling business, the best thing I recommend is instead of going out in your backyard and hurting yourself, go to a wrestling school and do it the right way.

Jason Fury's BYW Thoughts

Today, backyard Wrestling is at an all time high in the United States. I have seen countless matches of teenagers using items such as: light bulbs, cookie sheets, and 2x4, etc., and it makes me sick. Backyard Wrestling is the dumbest thing people do in their free time, not only are they risking injury to themselves, but they are risking injury or death to others as well. Also, when you do Backyard Wrestling, you are jeopardizing any possible chance of being in Pro Wrestling. In his book Foley Is Good, World Wrestling Superstar Mic Foley talks about how the World Wrestling Federation doesn't condone backyard wrestlers and what they do.

Here is a recent cases of what can happen do to Backyard Wrestling.

"On Tape: Teen Wrestler Set On Fire
Friday November 30 06:05 PM EST
A 16-year-old Volusia County boy is in stable condition Friday after a backyard wrestling stunt went wrong. The teen suffered second-degree burns on his chest and waist when his friend put rubbing alcohol on his clothes and ignited it. The unidentified victim is expected to be OK.The accident happened at 561 E. Euclid Ave. in DeLand, and the entire incident was caught on tape. The group of teenagers said that they often wrestle in each other's back yards after school, mimicking professional wrestlers and hard-core matches."There's only been a couple times that people probably broke their arms and stuff, got stitches or whatever, but that's about it. Nothing like this. Nothing where someone got burned and was in the hospital," said Brian Bates, the victim's brother.Bates said the accident should have never happened."(My brother) said 'Don't,' and the dude did it anyway," Bates said. "They throw the alcohol on you, and then they put you on fire."The videotape shows the victim calling for a timeout, but instead of stopping, someone hit him with a chair."We lit his leg and he got kind of scared," Joey Rousseau said. "I wish I wouldn't have done it."The victim rolled 10 times before the flames were put out, according to his brother.Rousseau could face criminal charges. The teens said they have been backyard wrestling for months. But after the incident, they said they won't be wrestling anymore." (Yahoo.com)

I have always been a huge wrestling fan. I would travel to the dorton arena every month to see Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling and the NWA. I would get up every saturday morning and watch wrestling. I had the action figures, the tshirts, everything.

On Saturdays after watching wrestling, we would go outside and emulate matches. I was always either Ric Flair, or Ricky Morton. My friend was always Dusty Rhodes (because he was chubby), or Tully Blanchard. We would wrestle around on the ground, applying the figure 4 and headlocks and stuff. We never even dreamed of hitting each other in the head with a chair, or lighting each other on fire. We emulated wrestling, not the hardcore crap.

I found and old tape recently of won of our "classic" backyard wrestling matches. It was so funny to watch me as a little kid giving the "rock n roll" i love you sign with my fingers. But the one thing i noticed on the tape, is that we really took care of each other. We were not careless, or trying to hurt each other.

Kids today have a death wish I think. They believe that what they see on tv, does not hurt. Many people blame the WWF and ECW for things their kids are doing to each other. They have noone to blame but themselves. If your kids are in the backyard piledriving each other through tables, who's fault is it? Is it the WWF for showing them the moves? Or is it the parents fault for letting them watch, or not teaching them the difference between reality and make believe.

If a child sees someone shot and killed in a movie, are they going to go out and shoot someone later? No, because most kids are taught by their parents that shooting someone is very wrong. That doesn't mean they cannot watch it, but they know it is not something that can be reenacted in real life.

Wrestling is entertainment. It is up to the parents to groom their children to understand this is something professionals do for your entertainment. This is not something that should be tried at home. If more parents would step up to the plate and fulfill their responsibilites as parents, you would not read most of the headlines you are reading today concerning backyard wrestling.

Don Montoya's BYW Thoughts

I think backyard wrestling is dangruous. when these young kids pick up chair and smash tables because they think they are cool. Go to a real school and train. Learn to wrestle and not swing a chair.

IT'S A DAMN SHAME!!! IT'S A SHAME THAT PARENTS TODAY DON'T HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHAT THEIR TEENAGE CHILDREN ARE DOING IN THEIR OWN BACKYARD. I HAVE TO PUT ALOT OF THE HEAT ON THE PARENTS. PARENTS HAVE GOT TO STEP IN AND PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT THEIR KIDS ARE DOING. WHEN YOUR CHILD COMES HOME WITH A BROKEN ARM OR BLOODY FACE YOU NEED TO GET INVOLVE AND PUT A STOP TO IT. PARENTS MUST PAY BETTER ATTENTION TO THEIR CHILDREN BEFORE THEY GET THE CALL THAT THEIR CHILD IS DEAD. AND FOR THE PARENTS WHO ARE STANDING OUT IN THE YARD WATCHING AND CHEERING FOR THEIR CHILDREN SHOULD BE PUT IN JAIL!!! THEIR CRAZIER THAN KIDS BEATING ON EACH OTHER. THE KIDS HAVE TO WAKE UP AS WELL. IF THEY THINK THAT JUMPING OFF A ROOF OR SMASHING YOUR BEST FRIEND OVER THE HEAD WITH A METAL CHAIR IS GOING TO GET YOU INTO THE WWF THEY ARE SERIOUSLY MISGUIDED. IF THEY WANT TO BE IN THE WRESTLING BUSINESS PLEASE DO IT THE RIGHT WAY, GO TO A WRESTLING SCHOOL, GET PROPER TRAINING, LEARN HOW TO WRESTLE AND SOMEDAY YOU JUST MAY GET THAT BIG BREAK, BUT PLEASE DON'T THINK THAT HAVING YOURSELF BEAT HALF TO DEATH IS GOING TO MAKE YOU A BIG WRESTLING STAR BECAUSE IT'S NOT. IT'S GOING TO GET YOU HURT, CRIPPLED, OR WORST OF ALL... DEAD!!! I KNOW ALL YOU GUYS ARE SMARTER THAN THAT. LEARN THE RIGHT WAY. THE INDUSTRY NEEDS UP AND COMING YOUNG GUYS WHO KNOW HOW TO WORK NOT KILL EACH OTHER. BE SMART AND ONE DAY YOU JUST MAY BE THAT NEXT STAR!!!
